NBC's new site Feast has started hunting down different culinary pros (dust my shoulder off) and creating fun little featurettes with them called "Eat my ..." My video was of course called "Eat My Cupcake."
It's going to be playing on Taxi TV in the next coming weeks so keep your eyes peeled New Yorkers!

Imagination Playground Ribbon Cutting

I was privileged enough to get to be one of the sponsors for the ribbon cutting of the new playground at the south street seaport called "imagination playground." Not shockingly, it's a playground that encourages kids to use their imagination to create their own play experience.

Serious Eats Cupcake Competition

How much fun is this?? I'm a long time fan of Serious Eats, and have always loved their "best.....in NY" competitions. So when I learned that we were part of one, I was just tickled. Out of 47 bakeries we were picked to be part of the final 12 favs. We ended up getting 5th place (which is not too shabby for a cupcake shop with no actual location!), but Baked took the prize and won best overall cupcake. Now, I've tried Baked's cupcakes and think they are pretty good - whether I would eat one of their cupcakes over one of ours? well, no comment.

Food and Wine Savory Cupcakes

Food and Wine Magazine just put together this great slide show of different savory cupcakes. Some of the cupcakes (like mine) are sweet and savory, but the majority are completely savory!
I'm telling you, this completely savory cupcake business is going to catch on - it's just a matter of time before all the cupcake bakers start to loose their sweet tooth and crave things like meatloaf and potato chips.

Red Velvet Lounge

I'm happy to announce that Kumquat Cupcakery has now taken over Baked by Melissa's role of cupcake baker at Red Velvet Lounge!
I must be honest I was a little skeptical when the guys of the Status Group approached me with this new task. I had heard some mixed reviews of the place from Cupcakes Take The Cake and Yelp, and wasn't sure how my Brooklyn side felt about the prospect of making cupcake for a New York nightclub. However, after I got to talking with the guys my mindset started to change - this was going to be so much fun! I haven't created a new cupcake in a very long time, let alone one that was meant to get you a little tipsy. I ran back to my kitchen and set to work making the best darn vodka drenched cupcakes you've ever tasted.....and by god, I think I might have done it! These cupcakes are so tasty and moist that I accidentally got drunk at 9am in my kitchen when I may have "taste tested" a few too many. I have yet to take pics, but below are the flavors they will be serving through the summer.

Svedka Cherry - Vanilla cake folded with fresh cherries and bits of dark chocolate, topped with svedka cherry vodca, chocolate frosting and dark chocolate shavings.
Absolute Brooklyn - Vanilla cake folded with fresh apple chunks and grated ginger, topped with absolute brooklyn, vanilla frosting and gold sugar.
Chocolate Pomegranate - Chocolate cake drenched in pomegranate liquor, and topped with a spicy white chocolate frosting.
Red Velvet - Just classic old red velvet (virgin)

It's been too long

Ohhhhhh how I have been slacking on my blogger duties! I always thought it was funny that companies hire professional bloggers to do all their blogging and tweeting, but I'm kinda starting to see the appeal. However, it'll be some time before I can hire an impostor keavy to write for me.

Now where do I start? Weddings.....june was all about the weddings. Here are just a few set ups from this last month.




Check out the cupcakes piled on top of each other on the lower tier, how much fun is that? Might be my new favorite way to display cupcakes.

Illegal Wedding Fair

The set up at the Illegal Wedding Fair this last Sunday turned out pretty darn good if you ask me. I'm in love with making white roses because it always reminds me of Alice and Wonderland. I also busted out the big guns with the chocolate raspberry cupcakes. I do make these still, they are just not on the menu at the moment.....Feel free to inquire.
